Health and Physical Education Standards and Courses. State law mandates that students in elementary school get forty minutes of physical education instruction 

The standards for K-12 Physical Education provide a framework for producing physically literate individuals, setting students on the road to enjoying a lifetime of healthful physical activity. The standards are the same for all grade levels. Physical Education K-5 Performance standards provide clear expectations for instruction, assessment, and student work. They define the level of work that demonstrates achievement of the standards, enabling a teacher to know “how good is good enough.” The Academic Standards for Health, Safety and Physical Education describe what students should know and be able to do by the end of third, sixth, ninth and twelfth grade.
